Musubi is the main female protagonist of the story and the first of Minato's Sekirei.

About Musubi

She met Minato while literally falling out of the sky and was moved by his kindness. This caused her Sekirei Crest to react to him. Due to this, she and Minato became involved in a tournament organized by the MBI Corperation, called Sekirei Plan, which forces them to fight with other Sekirei in the capital in order to protect themselves and the ones they care about.

Appearance

Musubi is a fair-skinned young woman of average height and slender build. She sports a very developed and curvaceous body with a slim waist and flared hips. She has brown eyes and brown hair. Her hair is styled in a hime cut; it has short bangs, chin-length strands surrounds her head and framing her face, a single antenna-like strand that hangs just above her head, and hip-length hair at the nape of her neck. Her most noticeable physical trait is her firm and well-endowed chest which is the second largest of all Sekirei, only behind Kazehana.

Her normal attire is a white gi with red string decorating it that resemble the traditional clothing worn by the miko with the addition of a short red skirt, mid-calf brown boots, and upper thigh-high white stockings. She also wears a pair of red combat gloves that she only takes off for more social events.

A running gag in the story is about how her clothing always ends up torn and tattered every time she fights, which usually results in a scary speech about manners and modesty from Asama Miya.

Personality

Sekirei08 10

Bear Visage.

Musubi is very cheerful and carefree to the point of not having any concept of modesty, as she routinely appears either under dressed or with little or no attempt to cover her exposed breasts. She is very naive but insightful, often saying things she does not understand, and is probably the most 'childish' of Minato's Sekirei, even more so than Kusano. She is very eager when it comes into confronting other Sekirei but never fails to be polite as she would usually ask for permission first before fighting them. Musubi is almost always smiling, even when she is upset or angry.

She develops a inner visage in the form of a ferocious bear that appears behind her whenever she is jealous or angry. The reason given is because she is Miya's disciple. Partly thanks to the inner visage, she has earned the nickname bear (Kuma) given by Tsukiumi,[1] by Benitsubasa (during the third stage after witnessing her visage)[2] and by the fact of this visage being obviously a bear. While Miya uses the Demonic Visage, Musubi uses the "Bear Visage". Another reference of it is when she and Tsukiumi protect both Minato and Kagari after the kiss.

Musubi is very loyal and keeps her word to the point of trying to fulfill it. It has been seen in her battle with Karasuba; to fight and live until they remain the last Sekirei on the battlefield,[3] and Yume; when kidnapped with No.87 Kaho, they swore to Yume that they'd find and be winged by the person they love, and become stronger than anyone else, and when one of them becomes the "last one", the last one would release the Sekirei who had lost their wings back into the freedom of the skies.[4]

Beyond that information, she also has a rivalry with Tsukiumi over who Minato's legal wife is. This rivalry consists mostly of shopping contests to decide who is allowed to sit next to him during meals, which Musubi has never lost once. With the others, she just competes to become closer with her Ashikabi.

Musubi is also known in Izumo Inn for being a glutton, eating large amounts of food and is apparently a capable cook, although she has only ever been seen cooking curry. Miya's nickname for Musubi is "Natural Big Meals Eater".

History

MusubiandYume01

Yume finds Musubi.

Little is known about Musubi's past except for a few facts: The mysterious Sekirei No. 08 Yume teamed up with Karasuba, rescued Musubi and Kaho[4] when they were children, and saved Musubi's life by Yume giving Musubi her "Tama" (the core which let Sekirei live and use their powers).[5] Years later after Yume's death, Karasuba and Musubi too made a promise that they would be together the last ones standing on the battlefield and that they would fight with the world at stake, like she did with Kaho[4]

Musubi also seems to know Takami quite well as she told Minato after the escape plan, that she was adjusted by Takami, which implies that Musubi was residing in one of MBI's facilities before going outside to find an Ashikabi.

Abilities and Powers

Musubi'sPower01

Musubi charging Kuma-ken.

Her abilities classify Musubi as a close combat type, specifically a "fist-type"; using raw might and unarmed combat skills to fight.[6] As such, she relies on punches, kicks, throws and other grappling, and acrobatics. While initially very unpolished and full of openings, her constant training with Miya has dramatically improved her fighting skills. Karasuba, one of the strongest Sekirei, believes that in time Musubi will far surpass Yume, a Sekirei that considerably outmatched Karasuba herself. During Benitsubasa's second fight against Musubi, the other Sekirei was quickly overpowered to the point it was suggested she use her Norito against Musubi.

In addition to constantly improved combat skills, Musubi has repeatedly demonstrated remarkable raw strength, speed, and agility. She also showed equally impressive stamina and endurance. Despite taking several hits to her head and torso from Benitsubasa during their first fight, Musubi quickly stood back up unfazed, greatly surprising Benitsubasa.[2]

While most of Musubi's attacks consist of punches and kicks, Musubi has begun to produce and exude pink energy through some of her attacks and a pink aura through her Norito, able to produce amplified, energy-based attacks. This energy is the same energy that Yume, #08, had been known to use. It is classified as photonic energy, essentially the power of light. It is heavily implied that this is a result of Yume's Tama merging with Musubi due to the strength of Musubi's connections with Minato and his other Sekirei, something Yume wanted both for herself and the young girl she saved.

Musubi was temporarily able to use the powers of Minato's other Sekirei in her battle with Miya on Kouten, such as Tsukiumi's water and Kazehana's wind.[7]

Attacks

Kumaken02

Executing Kuma-ken.

  • Kuma-ken (熊拳, Bear Fist): A powered punch. One of Musubi's moves and used for the first time during her battle with Katsuragi. Her Kuma-ken has the power to instantly deactivate some opponents like Katsuragi (both manga and anime version do not show the "pattern mode to kill" an Sekirei) and literally blow away the opponent.[2][8]
  • Kuma no Te (Bear Palm): By gathering energy into the palm of her hand, Musubi can condense it. Musubi will then thrust her palm forward at the target, launching a focused blast that will decimate everying in its path.[9]
  • Kuma Kikku (Bear Kick): An energy-enhanced thrusting kick where Musubi leads with her right leg and assaults the opponent from the air, creating a massive explosion. [10]

Norito

NoritoofMusubi01

Executing Norito.

Basically, it's a form to use a large amount of power. Every Sekirei is said to have it. The form to execute requires two steps:

  1. A kiss with their Ashikabi.
  2. A prayer.

It is yet unknown if there are different types of Noritos Sekirei can perform or if each Sekirei has more than one Norito. However, Musubi has shown two prayers while Tsukiumi has shown a longer prayer.

  • Prayer: "Fist of my contract! Break the unhappiness of my Ashikabi!"
  • English Anime Prayer: "By my fist of the contract, my Ashikabi's perils will be shattered!"
  • In the prologue/prelude chapters of the manga, it is shown to be a boost or power up over her physical abilities. The first time she uses it when she was searching for a house with Minato. She had the power to jump high into the sky and blow the clouds away with her strength.
  • Prayer: "These are the fists of my pledge. Crush the catastrophe before my Ashikabi!"
  • Kuma Ryūsei (熊拳, Bear Meteor): Is a strong punch that cause a huge impact on the object that it strikes. She used her Norito in the battle between Minato, Higa, and the Disciplinary Squad. That time, she named her attack and her punch was so strong that it destroyed the junction where they were fighting.
Upon fighting Miya on Kouten, a final rendition of Musubi's Prayer is: "Fists of my pledge, Deliver the wish of my Ashikabi and the wish of Sekirei into the heavens!"[11]

Yume taking over Musubi's body

At times, it is seen that Yume can take control of Musubi's body. When Musubi lost her crest on the bridge while helping Kuno and Shigi escape, Yume awoke due to 'Minato's love for Musubi'. When Yume takes over, a tattoo appears on Musubi's stomach as well as a yin/yang symbol in her eyes. This tattoo may act as a second crest.

Yume's abilities seem to be compatible with Musubi. She is able to use her photonic abilities as well as her super strength as seen when she beat Benitsubasa easily.[12]

It is unknown how, but Yume restored Musubi's crest. If Yume can do this multiple times, it is logical to think that Musubi can never truly be defeated unless she is outright killed.

Synopsis

Musubi's first appearance in the story comes in the prelude chapters, which details her meeting with Minato, fight with Hibiki and Hikari, and her winging. When Minato wakes up the next day following their first meeting, he finds Musubi next to him and is shocked but recalls what happened the day before. After the phone call from the professor, Musubi explained that she didn't have any place to return to and that each Sekirei has to be forever on her Ashikabi's side. He realized that he really went through all the past events and didn't dream. While thinking what he should do next, Musubi starts to change in front of him and he quickly leaves his apartment. After Musubi is finished with changing, Minato asks her why he was chosen as her Ashikabi but she responds that he wasn't chosen, rather he was pulled into it although she doesn't know the details herself. In order to explain a bit more about the reaction of the Sekirei towards their Ashikabi, she kisses him and shows Minato her wings of light. Minato's heart starts to beat faster and he stares in her eyes but Musubi once again collapses from a empty stomach and he takes her to a restaurant where he treats her food.

After the meal, Minato suggests to go to a supermarket in order to buy some ingredients for the dinner but wonders if he has enough money and tells Musubi to go on ahead while he visits the bank. While walking towards the bank, he suddenly gets an phone call and it appears to be his younger sister Yukari who heard about him failing his exams for a second time. Minato uses the opportunity and asks his younger sister Yukari about sending him some female clothing. She misunderstands him and accuses him of becoming a pervert after moving into the capital but eventually agrees to do so. While thinking about the conversation with his sister, he hears someone offering him a flyer. He looks behind him and frightened recognizes the girls who were chasing Musubi previous day. Minato suddenly hears his name and it turns out to be Musubi who runs towards him from the other side of the street because she forgot to ask what she should prepare for dinner. Minato tries to warn Musubi about the twins but they attack her quickly with lightning. With her clothes ripped off, the two girls recognize the mark of the Sekirei on her back and note that she already has spread her wings. Suddenly one of the two grabs Minato and remarks that he looks quite worthless for an Ashikabi. She attempts to hurt him but is stopped by Musubi who engages combat with the two girls. The fight doesn't last long and the two girls retreat with one of the two apologizing for their behavior. Musubi returns to Minato, and he covers her body with his jacket. He asks Musubi what she and those other girls are, so she responds that they are Sekirei.[13]

Later in the day when the food is almost ready, Minato asks Musubi more about Sekirei. She explains him that there are several ones with each his own ability who need people like Minato as their Ashikabi in order for them to spread their wings. The next day, he receives a package with clothes from his sister. Disappointed with her picks, he calls her up and asks her to send him normal clothes but she once again seems to misunderstand his intention.[14] Later on when Musubi is taking a shower, he's seen thinking about how unnerving it is for a normal lifestyle, to be living together with a girl. He reminiscences about the past when he lived together with his younger sister and brushes off his painful experience. He shortly afterwards receives a package from MBI, containing a change of clothes for Musubi. While discussing Musubi's clothes, he receives a surprise visit from his younger sister Yukari. Astonished at her sudden appearance, he tries hide the fact who Musubi actually is out of fear for MBI. He suddenly gets an phone call from a classmate who invites him for a walk.

After his sister decides to do some shopping with Musubi, he warns her to be careful in the capital and he meets up with his classmate Yasaka in the city. During the walk, they meet up with the No.1 host in the city; Kagari. Yasaka introduces him to Minato and after having a small talk, he invites them to have a drink next time they meet. Yasaka explains more about Kagari and when they decide to head back, Minato bumps into a girl with glasses who was carrying some books. After she walks away, Minato sees a mark on her back and remarks that he has saw it somewhere else. He walks home with a headache, finds Musubi in maid outfit and discovers that his sister is staying at a friend's house. He takes afterwards a bath with Musubi but feels quickly dizzy thanks to his cold.[15]

Minato dreams of his meeting Musubi, becoming her Ashikabi, and becoming caught up in the Sekirei Plan. He awakens to the sensation of something soft in his hand...which turns out to be Musubi's bare breast. He had passed out after taking a shower, then complained of being cold; Musubi had heard that shared body heat was best in that situation, so that's how they ended up naked together. Quickly they both get dressed; and just in time, as Minato's landlord barges in. The landlord spots Musubi, confirming that he had heard a female voice in the apartment for the past week; since Minato had signed the contract as a single-occupant, it's a contract violation and the landlord gives him one week to move out. [16]

So a day of apartment-hunting begins. Musubi offers Minato her MBI card, but Minato declines because he was raised by his mother to solve his problems himself. He tries 30 places but is rejected at all of them. Dejected, he stops in a park to rest; and it immediately starts raining, perfectly capping off his rotten day. He tells Musubi that an Ashikabi is supposed to be a special person, not a loser like him; but in response she says that Minato is her special person, and anything is possible. She then kisses him, recites her Norito, and launches the two of them skyward; the violence of their passage rips the rain clouds apart, revealing a full moon. The sight of Musubi with the moon as a backdrop momentarily stuns Minato out of his funk.

Unfortunately, the Norito-powered jump ends and Musubi forgot to think about landing. They crash down through trees and land in a heap (Musubi on top again), a bit scratched up but still alive. A beautiful woman in traditional Japanese garments approaches them.

While Minato and Musubi are resting inside, Minato's mother calls him up and yells at him after finding out that he moved. She even decides to reduce his allowance, which comes as a shock to Minato. Even though his problems are piling up, Minato decides to stay strong and apologizes to Musubi for thinking of giving up. In return, Musubi kisses him and asks if he dislikes her. Minato states that he does like her while smiling. Musubi hugs him. She lies down with Minato on top of her, but much to his surprise, she already fell asleep. Minato hears her mumbling his name, smiles and covers her with a blanket and sleeps beside her, thinking that he is going to work harder. [17]

After giving thanks to the landlord, Minato and Musubi decide to head to their new home. Musubi manages to carry all of Minato's belongings on her back which surprises him. She explains that they have a power contract. She also tells him that different Sekirei have different incantations which are chanted before using a strong attack/power. Before Minato could ask anything else, they arrive at the Inn.

As they arrange their room, Minato wonders if even though Musubi told him that she likes him, is may only be out of obligation because he is her Ashibaki[18]. Minato realizes his feelings indicate that he is becoming attached and attracted to Musubi. After they finish arranging the room as needed, Musubi is excited to know that Minato has a TV, which he didn't use before because of disruptions in studies. Musubi tells him that she was raised and controlled on an island, so she feels delighted to know about the outside world. She hugs Minato and explains that its because newly born Sekirei cannot control their powers, as of now, if her power wasn't under her control, she might have turned Minato into a pancake while hugging him. On asking about the island, she tells him that its called Kamikura, and it is a secret island of MBI.

While Musubi was taking a bath, Uzume joins her and introduces herself as the resident of Room 203.[6] Uzume spots the Sekirei Crest on Musubi’s back, and tells her that she is a Sekirei as well. Outside, Minato wonders about the girl who was crying and asking for his help, when suddenly he hears a loud bang, and it turns out to be a fight between Uzume and Musubi. Uzume tries to calm Musubi down for her sudden outburst, but she refuses to back down. Minato follows the noise, and runs into Uzume in her towel (with her towel almost coming off). She hugs Minato from behind, asking him to stop Musubi as she has no intentions of fighting. Eventually Miya arrives, and calms the situation down.

Musubi wakes Minato up after he dreams of Kusano (the Green Girl), but he still seems confused.[19] While enjoying the weather, they notice Miya practicing swordsmanship. Minato freaks out when Musubi asks Miya to spar with her, to which she agrees. Minato watches them when Uzume joins him, trying to calm Minato by saying that they are only sparring so there is nothing to worry about. She then teases Minato about the bloomers Musubi was wearing. She then says that there are times when they have to fight even when they don’t want to, because they are Sekirei.

In another room, Musubi finishes eating (completely emptying a large rice cooker) and then tells Miya that she is feeling uneasy about Minato today.[20] Miya suggests that she call him, but they discover that he left his cell phone at the inn. Musubi decides to take it to him, but as she whirls around to leave she crashes into Kagari and they both fall to the floor. She notices he doesn’t look well, to which he replies that he is just tired. After they unpile and Musubi again prepares to leave, Miya advises Musubi that an open side is proof that she is putting (too much) power into her shoulder; she tells her to relax and be natural, and prays for the gods to watch over her. After Musubi leaves, Kagari comments that if there were more people like Musubi around even his flaws would be revealed. Miya tells Kagari to fix his habit of smoking when he is anxious; Kagari then departs on his errand.

On her way to find Minato, Musubi notices that he has received a new e-mail on his phone; at that moment, Minato and Seo are examining the entrance to the Botanical Garden which is heavily guarded. Seo states that if they won’t be permitted to enter they will just have to bust their way through, and Minato internally wonders if he just made a "few bad friends."

Yomi, a Sekirei of Hayato Mikogami's, arrives on the scene as well and charges at Minato, demanding that he release Kusano; but just as she swings her scythe, Musubi arrives and blocks her attack by trapping the blade between her palms.[21]

Musubi declares that it's too dangerous to have something that sharp swinging around, and casually snaps the blade in two. While Yomi is distraught by the breaking of her precious scythe, Musubi turns to a bemused Minato and hands him his cell phone. Yomi then realizes that Minato is an Ashikabi, albeit one less refined than her own; Musubi replies that someone like Yomi wouldn't know a good person if she saw one. This infuriates Yomi and she attacks Musubi using her scythe; even with the blade broken in half Yomi can still generate cutting winds with it, and she slices the top half of Musubi's outfit to ribbons.

Yomi and Musubi are fighting and Yomi has fun tearing Musubi's clothing apart. Musubi takes advantage of Yomi being completely engulfed in her thoughts of humiliating her, and touches Yomi's crest, recites her prayer and terminates Yomi.[22] Musubi later explains to Minato that a Sekirei who loses her crest can never see her Ashikabi again.

After returning home, Musubi spends the following day training with Miya while Ku watches.[23] After lunch Minato remembers Musubi's words: that once terminated a Sekirei can no longer be with her Ashikabi. He asks Musubi if this also applies to her; she confirms that it does.[24] Crestfallen, Minato thinks that reduces their relationship to a mere game (the Sekirei Plan) which ends when the game is over; but Musubi strongly denies that, as her feelings for Minato are sincere and not a game. Minato apologizes for belittling her feelings, and Musubi promises him that she will not lose. She also tells Minato that the reward for the last remaining Sekirei is be to be together with her Ashikabi forever. Minato decides to believe in Musubi's strong words.

Matsu soon shows up, and surprises Minato in the bath and tries to get winged by him; her plan is disrupted when Musubi returns from her shopping trip a little earlier than she expected.[25] When Musubi goes to wash up, Matsu restrains her with a special MBI-produced net so she can continue to "experiment" on Minato; but Miya interrupts and ends the scuffle.

Later Musubi and Kusano are playfully watering the garden when an unexpected guest arrives (and gets watered herself):  Karasuba, "The Black Sekirei". Musubi seems to have some friendly relation to her, but Matsu is scared to death and hides in her room.[26] Karasuba leaves after having her clothes dried and confirming that Musubi hasn't forgotten the promise they made.

Minato's group (including newcomer Tsukiumi) and Seo, Hibiki, and Hikari arrive at Izumo Inn after the escaped that led to Tsukiumi being winged by Minato.[27] After being questioned by Miya as to who she might be, Tsukiumi claims to be Minato's wife making Kusano and Musubi envious. They claim to be Minato's wives as well, and she challenges them; but the situation is quickly resolved by Miya, who declares fighting in the inn to be strictly forbidden.

A couple of days later, Minato tries to warn his Sekirei about the dangerous Sekirei who kills others without revealing her identity; but this only achieves the opposite effect, as Musubi and Tsukiumi are inspired to teach this Sekirei a lesson.[28] Musubi and Tsukiumi soon head out, and enocunter and engage a veiled Uzume in combat, unaware that it is her they are fighting.[29] However, Kazehana interrupts stating that it is not a fair fight. Tsukiumi tells Musubi to go fight Kuno, then attempts to resume the fight with Uzume; but Kazehana declares she doesn't like Tsukiumi's tone and takes Uzume away altogether. Meanwhile Musubi introduces herself to Kuno and Shigi Haruka, but they decline her polite invitation to fight.

Over the following chapters, Musubi accompanies Minato, Kazehana, Haruka, and Kuno to meet with Seo and the twins and formulate an escape plan for Haruka and Kuno, also attending the pre-mission party at Izumo Inn.[30] After the plan begins and they reach a bridge leading towards a potential exit from the city, the group (Musubi, Minato, Haruka, and Kuno) are confronted by Benitsubasa and Haihane of the Disciplinary Squad.[31] Musubi engages Benitsubasa, but the more ruthless and well-trained Sekirei batters and beats her ceaselessly while also mocking Minato.[32] Eventually Musubi is crushed with a massive punch from Benitsubasa that removes her Crest. After Tsukiumi arrives, defeating Haihane and holding off Beni, Yume's spirit helps to revive Musubi and the Sekirei of Fate deals with the Red Sekirei personally.[33]

After recovering at an MBI-owned medical facility with Minato and Tsukiumi, also encountering Karasuba, who reminds her of their promise and whose flashback details important events of their shared past with Yume, Musubi arrives back home with the others.[34]

After Minato's five Sekirei resolve to help him wing a reacting and suffering Homura, Minato, Musubi, Ku, Kazehana, and Tsukiumi leave to track him down.[35] In the process Musubi fights and defeats Katsuragi, a Sekirei of Izumi Higa, who also seeks to wing Homura, with the help of amplified power from Homura's winging by Minato, and the use of her Bear Fist technique.[36]

After Minato requests that Matsu inform him and the others who don't know much/anything about the first invasion of Kamikura Island and other key events regarding the Sekirei, Matsu obliges him and tells the group, Musubi included, multiple stories of her past experiences, such as her time as a member of the First Generation Disciplinary Squad, this is later followed by the start of the Third Stage and its matches.[37]

Minato and Musubi encounter Himura Youichi and his Sekirei Nanaha; Himura asks Minato if he wants to join a group escaping the city, but his poor attitude causes Minato to reject his offer categorically.[38] Their meeting is broken up by the arrival of MBI troops and Karasuba, who later terminates Nanaha. Minato eventually asks Tsukiumi, Homura, and Musubi to fight alongside him in the third match of the the Third Stage, contested against Natsuo and Higa's teams, and for possession of a Jinki.[39] As the fight, held at a formerly busy traffic junction begins, Musubi and Benitsubasa rush each other, leading to Musubi blasting the surroundings with a massive energy attack that creates wreckage and chaos, all part of Minato's strategy going into the fight.[40] The majority of Musubi's time during the battle is then spent clashing with Benitsubasa, with no decisive victor, until the fight is declared over, with the Northern quartet winning a Jinki.[41] When Uzume attacks the group for their Jinki on Higa's orders, she restrains Musubi, but does not harm her. [42]

Matsu, Kusano, Tsukiumi, and Musubi later depart Izumo Inn on their mission to extract Chiho from Higa's hospital and take her to MBI to be cured, as part of their overarching plan to help free Uzume.[43]

As they run into opposition, Tsukiumi fights Higa's Sekirei off (terminating two) and Ku and Musubi depart with Chiho as Matsu extracts Chiho's medical records from the hospital database.[44] Tsukiumi and Matsu later emerge from a manhole cover while Ku and Musubi make their own way back after dropping off Chiho to receive proper care, Minato hugs Musubi and Tsukiumi tightly; as Homura explains to them that Uzume was terminated. [45]

Musubi is later able to see Miya's shared memories of the past through her bond with Minato, which includes a Sekirei that resembles her.[46]

Back at Maison Izumo during the fourth match (Minato only takes Ku with him to battle, after forming an alliance with Seo and Sanada), Musubi and Tsukiumi sense Ku "getting ahead of them" by further bonding with Minato again; Musubi reminisces about Uzume, which leads her to propose everyone make a profound and unique "Sekirei Expression" regarding their futures with Minato.[47] Later, Higa's Sekirei attack the inn again, leading to Tsukiumi clashing with Ichiya while Homura fights Kaiha, Kazehana-Kaie, and Musubi-Toyotama.[48] However, when Higa orders his Sekirei to fall back because of Mikogami's intervention and Toyotama's termination by Musubi, the fight does not reach a definitive conclusion.[49] After cleaning up the damage done to the inn with the others, Musubi has her Declaration heart-to-heart with Minato.[50]

Musubi accompanies the others to Kamikura when the Fourth Stage begins, taking one of Minato's Jinki to its receptacle alongside Matsu, Tsukiumi, and Minaka.[51] After a brief clash with the Lightning Twins, Tsukiumi and Musubi triumph without terminating them.[52]

After reuniting with Ku, Homura, Minato, and Kazehana, Musubi protects Minato from Benitsubasa and eventually begins her fateful fight with Karasuba.[53]

Musubi and Karasuba continue their epic battle.[54] Each blow launched lands on the other and both women are soon injured. Karasuba declares she will enjoy killing Musubi and forcing Yume to manifest again (as happened at the bridge escape); but Musubi tells her that Yume is gone. At that moment some of the invading troops encounter them; they fire on Karasuba, which only draws her attention to them. Reminded of the day she and Yume fought invading troops during the Second Invasion, Karasuba turns to attack them. Musubi blocks her attack, however, and explains that she and Yume are now permanently joined as one; killing her will not bring back Yume. This triggers a surge of emotion that reaches Natsuo. Karasuba severs her connection with Natsuo; he is momentarily stunned by the loss. Musubi warns Karasuba that what she has done risks her own death; but Karasuba is adamant that she will act according to her own will and no other, and launches one final attack which she dedicates to Yume. Musubi vows to oppose it with everything she has, but is momentarily daunted by the dark fury of Karasuba; her resolve returns due to her awareness of Minato's support. Musubi uses her Norito and Bear Fist attack to block Karasuba's strike, shattering Karasuba's sword in the process and releasing a blinding flash of energy. Karasuba sees a vision of Yume, who admonishes her for rejecting her fate; Yume explains that Karasuba will never be able to defeat her until she accepts it. Karasuba awakens lying in the grass, with Natsuo kneeling over her; Natsuo has re-established their bond by kissing her once again. He declares that their wish to destroy the world that had hurt them so badly by isolating themselves from it was misguided, that they need to be connected to the world in order to change it. Exhausted and with much to consider, Karasuba surrenders to sleep.[55]

Suspended in a dream-like state, Minato envisions himself wandering through an empty Izumo Inn until he encounters Uzume on the roof (Uzume, in a similar state, can communicate with him). She explains that whoever wins the Fourth Stage and goes on to the final battle can only take one Sekirei with him. Meanwhile, Musubi urges Minato's other Sekirei to unite their energies in her, as she can reach Minato through the Ashikabi core remnant she inherited from Yume. She reaches Minato in the dream world, and helps to revive him. As a result, Minato is the only Ashikabi still standing; by default, he's won the Fourth Stage and will know be the one to take the fight that could win him the Plan. All his other Sekirei are unconscious, as they've placed their faith and power in Musubi. Together, Minato and Musubi fly up to Kouten, where the Queen awaits. The final battle will be an all-out one-on-one battle. The Queen is unmatched in skill and experience, but because Musubi still carries the other Sekirei with her in spirit, she can invoke their abilities, allowing her to surprise the Queen with powerful attacks and even greater, enhanced speed and strength. The two engage in one final clash, and Musubi emeges the victor. Minato then declares their mutual wish: "The freedom for all Sekirei and Ashikabi to spread their wings." Musubi then regretfully pushes Minato off Kouten; as the new Queen, Musubi must now act alone. Minato is saved by his other Sekirei, who had re-awakened after Musubi's victory. The dethroned Miya is also returned to Earth.[7]

Musubi eventually returns from managing Kouten by the end of the series, falling from Kouten in a manner reminiscent of her first meeting with Minato.[56] She only appears briefly in the epilogue/prelude, largely still being on Kouten.

In the anime, Minaka chose to have the data to save Uzume's Ashikabi on a storage device and have Minato and his Sekirei retrieve it instead of just bringing Chiho to them. During the retrieval, Minaka destroys MBI Tower, which starts the Third Stage.

After MBI Tower was destroyed, Musubi battled Karasuba. Karasuba threatened to kill Tsukiumi, Matsu, Kusano, Homura, and Kazehana if Musubi didn't fight. While she didn't win, Musubi saited enough of Karasuba's bloodlust for her to let them go.[57]
