Takehito Asama (浅間 建人) is the husband of Miya Asama and a close friend of Seo Kaoru's, formerly employed by MBI and influential in first interacting with and learning more about Sekirei.

Appearance[]

Takehito is a man in his 20s, of average height and slender build. He has messy and spiky white hair that occasionally obscured his face, as well as grey eyes, and most commonly wore a black turtle neck sweater and sweatpants covered by a white lab coat. In his free time he is seen wearing a traditional Kimono[1]. Following his revival, he wore his old turtleneck sweatshirt and sweatpants, along with a pair of white sneakers.[2]

Takehito using a Demonic Visage

Takehito was the first to use a "Demonic Visage" while talking to Seo over the phone, which made Miya smile for the first time.[3]Although hesitant at first, Miya allowed Minato Sahashi and Musubi to move in because Takehito never turned away a person in need of his help, something she adapted into her own beliefs.[4]

Takehito was strongly opposed to the Sekirei Plan according to Miya. She said many times that he would have objected to and stopped it from the beginning if he were still alive. Takehito also helped many people who ran away or were enemies of MBI, like Matsu or Homura. Although he had this kind side to him, Seo has stated that he was a demon and that his spirit was "rotten"[4]. Seo also described him as a "research idiot", hardly able to do anything or focus on anything else besides his profession[1]. Through unspecified means, he has been shown to use the same "demonic visage" that Miya herself later uses.

It is shown that Takehito was not proud about being able to make the first five Sekirei into immensely powerful killing machines, even after their adjustments, and seems to regret having done so after seeing the death and destruction they caused. He was noticeably uncomfortable at the gruesome sight of the battlefield and even said that he felt no sense of accomplishment as he watched the first Disciplinary Squad finishing off the surviving stragglers of the invading army.[3]

History and Synopsis[]

Takehito was one of the first MBI researchers hired on by Minaka to work with the Sekirei, and the one responsible for discovering the winging system, Norito and existence of the Ashikabi. Together with Takami Sahashi, he was the adjuster of the 'First Generation' Disciplinary Squad, Miya, Matsu, Kazehana, Karasuba, and Mutsu, furthermore he was also responsible for adjusting Homura, Uzume, Hikari and Hibiki.[3] His interactions with Miya in particular were quite fruitful, leading to her coming to respect and appreciate humans and their way of life, the two falling in love, and her moving in with him at Izumo Inn following the successful defense of Kamikura Island and the First Generation Disciplinary Squad's disbanding.

He once confided to Homura during a conversation after Homura's regular adjustments that he believed an Ashikabi's power is the "power of fate", and was also responsible for encouraging Homura to seek out his Ashikabi despite the low likelihood of there being such a compatible person for the Sekirei. He was also the one who explained that Homura's sex and gender would change based on the preferences of his future Ashikabi. According to Miya he wouldn't want the Sekirei Plan to happen.[5] He also owned Izumo Inn, which Miya now opeartes as a business and safe haven for Ashikabi and Sekirei. He died at some unknown point in the story but Miya has implied that her leaving MBI indirectly caused his death.[3] It is also at hinted by Seo that Minaka might have had something to do with his death or at the very least did nothing to prevent it[6]. During the 4th match in the Third Stage of the Sekirei Plan, Seo reveals that the Jinki caused his death, something indicated earlier on by Miya.[7][8]

The exact cause of his death was thus: he was called back to MBI due to a crisis with a Jinki that, due to an error, began to "charge a termination attack". Upon arriving to MBI HQ, he found that Takami and Minaka were present along with several Sekirei unable to be moved. (Among them, Haihane, Benitsubasa, Shiina, and Kusano). After confirming that he was the only non-Ashikabi type human present, and being somewhat manipulated by Karasuba, Takehito decided to move forward with his plan to save Sekirei and Ashikabi alike, even though it would spell his doom. He inverted the termination attack so Sekirei and Ashikabi were immune to the harm, but he sealed his own fate as he was the only "regular" human present.[9] After his presumed demise, Karasuba was assigned to drop off his lab coat to Izumo Inn, where Miya had been living with him. When Miya met the Black Sekirei in front of the Inn, she saw the lab coat in Karasuba's arms and snapped, reverting to her old, ruthless persona from her days as Disciplinary Squad leader, and brutally cut Karasuba down.[10]

His true fate is originally left unknown as a casket can be seen in the labs of Teito Tower, with his name marked clearly on its exterior towards the end of the Sekirei Plan and in its aftermath.

This is later rectified a few years after the conclusion of the Sekirei Plan, when Minato, in charge of Sekirei-related operations for MBI (as the director of the "New Sekirei Project"), successfully revives him.[2] He is promptly seen by Natsuo in the hallways of Teito Tower, who asks Minato if Takehito is who he thinks he is, to which both Minato and Takehito simply smile. He and Minato walk the streets of Teito together, Takehito remaking that Teito has changed a great deal. Minato takes this as Takehito criticizing him for not being able to prevent the Sekirei Plan from escalating, which Takehito clarifies is not what he meant. He later thanks Minato for reviving him, but Minato gives nearly all the credit to Minaka, whose own research and work had gone into helping Minato's own efforts along.[2] He is later shown reuniting with a healthy and recovered Miya in front of Izumo Inn, and asks her if she would still be willing to hold him, kiss him, and be his wife once more, even after his failure to prevent the Sekirei Plan from happening and keep her and the other Sekirei from conflict. In response, she runs into his arms, shouts his name, and tearfully welcomes him back home.[2]
